The secret to making money from your crochet is by acknowledging that you cannot make the income you need by just selling what you make. That you need something else as an income stream as well.

Why can’t you just sell what you make? Because you are not making any money unless you’re crocheting. If you take a day off, there’s no money coming in. You want to take a holiday with the family? Great, but there will be a huge queue of orders waiting for you when you get back and you either have to work super long days to clear the queue while still taking on new orders, or stop taking orders while you clear the backlog. Not a very appealing prospect right? You end up back in that rat race you wanted to escape from in the first place and not being able to spend the time with your family that you dreamed of.

There is another way. Of course you can still sell what you make as part of a bigger strategy but the secret to making crochet your only income is to have a recurring source of income. Recurring income is any product where you do the work once, and then sell that product over and over again. These are usually online products and they will give you the power to make money while you sleep, grow your income without growing your workload, and they let you cut your working week down to just a few hours.

What Is Recurring Income?

Recurring income is where you make money from something that you create once, then profit from it over and over again. When it comes to crochet we’re talking patterns, blogs, podcasts, YouTube channels, merchandising, courses. Anything where you can do the work once and sell or make money with that product over and over again. It’s recurring income also known as semi-passive income, and that it is the secret to making a full time income from your crochet.

Build Your Crochet Business To Fit You

There are many crochet business out there doing this right now and doing brilliantly. It may be very tempting to go and find these businesses and simply copying their approach, after all if it works for them, it will work for you right?

Not necessarily. Their strategy may work for them, but it doesn’t mean it will work for you.

Why?

Lets take YouTube as an example. You can make a fair bit of cash from creating a successful YouTube channel. However if you don’t enjoy making videos and being on camera, you will avoid doing it. If you avoid doing it, you won’t be posting any videos. If you don’t post any videos you won’t be making any money.

If something becomes a chore, it won’t work. So you need to choose the combination of income streams that work for you. That you enjoy. That fits in with your lifestyle. You can make any of these income ideas work, but only if you want to put the time and effort into learning and using them to their maximum potential.

It takes trial and error to learn what you enjoy doing. You have to try new things to see if you enjoy doing them, if they suit your lifestyle. All these options and new things can be very overwhelming when you first start looking into them.

But where do you start?

Think about what you enjoy doing now, and what you don’t. If you love talking about your crochet, but hate making videos then you should give podcasting a try. If you like writing, but you don’t feel yourself to be a story writer then I would suggest pattern writing. If you love getting into the details and have a gift for maths then tech editing may be for you

There are so many ways that you can use your crochet to provide yourself and your family with an income that you can comfortably live on. It’s a case of being open minded and being willing to try new things, knowing that this is putting you on the path to a better future

Knowing what you want to try and making that idea generate an income are two different things. I want to help you discover what works for you.
